New Life Story Seeds # 1

Simplicity

An occasional mailing of one thoughtful quotation and ten juicy questions suitable for contemplation and writing prompts.

================================================

"Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is the wisdom of leaving things undone.  The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of non-essentials."  Lin Yutang

1. How do you "get things done" in your life?  On a daily basis, do you accomplish most of the things you set out to do?
2. How do you feel when your tasks are not completed?
3. What have you learned to leave undone on occasion?
4. How successful are you at delegating?
5. In the past year, when have you felt calm and wise?  When have you felt stressed and harried?
6. What material objects, attitudes, and activities clutter your life?
Which ones enrich your life?
7. Implicit in the idea of leaving things undone is the idea of giving up control, letting go, and "going with the flow."  How do you react to relinquishing control?
8. Can you visualize yourself as a person who embraces simplicity?  What does that picture look like?
9. Who are your role models for wisdom and simplicity?  How can you incorporate their positive qualities into your life?
10. Through the years, what non-essentials have simply "dropped away" from you, seemingly of their own accord?  What non-essentials do you plan to outgrow in the future?
